Cookie Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2025 · Applies to chooseblock.com visitors in Canada
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet or smartphone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function properly, remember preferences and improve user experience. Cookies may be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (remaining until they expire or you delete them).
In addition to traditional HTTP cookies, ChooseBlock Lab uses browser localStorage — a similar technology that stores key-value pairs locally on your device. For simplicity, we refer to both cookies and localStorage collectively as "cookies" in this policy, unless a distinction is necessary.
2. How We Use Cookies
ChooseBlock Lab uses a minimal cookie footprint aligned with our privacy-first approach. We do not use cookies for advertising, cross-site tracking or profiling. Our cookies exist solely to support core platform functionality and remember choices you make during your visit.
3. Cookie Classification
We classify the files used on chooseblock.com as follows:
3.1 Strictly Necessary
These cookies are essential for the website to operate. Without them, core features such as age verification and cookie consent management would not function. They do not require consent under most privacy frameworks because they are strictly necessary for service delivery.
- chooseblock_age_verified (localStorage) — Stores your age verification confirmation so the 18+ modal is not shown on every visit. Duration: until cleared manually.
- chooseblock_cookies_accepted (localStorage) — Records your cookie consent choice (accepted or declined). Duration: until cleared manually.
3.2 Functional
These cookies enhance your experience by remembering game-related preferences and progress within our virtual experiments. They are not essential but improve usability.
- Game progress data (localStorage) — Virtual lab credit balances, experiment statistics and in-game settings stored locally on your device. No data is transmitted to our servers. Duration: until cleared manually.
3.3 Analytics & Marketing — Not Used
ChooseBlock Lab does not deploy third-party analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics), advertising pixels, social media trackers or retargeting cookies. We do not share cookie data with advertising networks or data brokers.
4. Managing Cookie Settings
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, block or delete cookies. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent age verification from being remembered and could affect platform functionality.
Instructions for common browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
To clear localStorage specifically, open your browser developer tools (F12), navigate to the Application or Storage tab, select Local Storage for chooseblock.com and delete individual keys or clear all entries.
When you click "Decline" on our cookie banner, we record your preference in localStorage and hide the banner. Essential cookies required for basic site operation may still be set regardless of your choice, as they are necessary for the service to function.
5. Third-Party Cookies
ChooseBlock Lab does not embed third-party content that sets tracking cookies. External links (such as responsible gaming resources) lead to third-party websites with their own cookie policies, over which we have no control. We recommend reviewing those policies when you visit external sites.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in technology, legislation or our practices. Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use of chooseblock.com after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
7. Contact Us
If you have questions about our use of cookies, contact us:
- Email: hello@chooseblock.com
- Address: 250 Yonge Street, Suite 2201, Toronto, ON M5B 2L7, Canada
For broader privacy matters, see our Privacy Policy.
8. Cookie Lifespan
Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent localStorage entries remain until you manually clear them or uninstall your browser. Age verification and cookie consent records persist indefinitely unless cleared, ensuring you are not repeatedly prompted on return visits. Game session history entries are capped at the twenty most recent sessions per experiment and rotate automatically as new sessions are recorded.
9. Game Storage Keys
Our playable experiments — Plinko Lab, Lab Slots and Lab Spin Wheel — store the following data locally: shared lab credit balance (chooseblock_lab_credits), per-game session history (chooseblock_history_plinko, chooseblock_history_slots, chooseblock_history_wheel), session start timestamp and break timer preferences. None of this data identifies you personally and none is synchronised across devices unless you use browser sync features independently.
10. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals. Because we do not engage in cross-site tracking or behavioural advertising, DNT settings do not materially change our data practices. We treat all visitors equally with our minimal cookie approach regardless of DNT configuration.
